Lorain County Jail Passes State Inspection

The jail was deemed 100 percent compliant with all state standards.

ELYRIA, OH — The Lorain County jail was deemed completely compliant with state standards, the sheriffs announced.

Lorain County Jail can house up to 422 inmates and is considered a full-service jail. The facility was inspected by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC). Inspectors looked at the following parts of the jail: reception and release, security, house, classification, sanitation and environmental standards, communication, visitation, medical and mental health, and more.

"Despite 2020 being a very challenging year for everyone, particularly the jail who had to adapt to the ever-increasing demands placed on corrections during the COVID crisis, I am pleased with the results," said Lorain County Sheriff Phil Stammitti. "The jail staff work hard to maintain compliance and exceed minimum standards when possible...their continued diligence is very much appreciated."
