Experts from Lorain County Community College and Mercy Health shared tips and tricks to quit in recent online seminars.

Press release from Lorain County Public Health:

Lorain County Public Health (LCPH) recently led online seminars to help adults quit tobacco. Experts from Lorain County Community College and Mercy Health shared tips and tricks to quit. Notably, many seminar attendees shared that their worksites have tobacco-free policies. LCPH affirms that tobacco-free policies can help reduce tobacco use.

“Place does matter,” says Dave Covell, MPH, RS, health commissioner at LCPH. “When you’re trying to quit tobacco and you smell tobacco smoke, it may cause a craving. A tobacco-free policy at a public place or worksite helps you avoid cravings and reach your goal of quitting for good.”

Tobacco-free policies benefit everyone. These policies aim to prevent people, especially youth, from starting to use tobacco. They also aim to help people quit using tobacco. Tobacco-free policies also reduce harmful health effects caused by exposure to secondhand smoke. “Many public places or worksites that have a tobacco-free policy also have free resources for people who want to quit tobacco,” Covell adds.

If you are trying to quit tobacco, visit tobacco-free places to avoid smelling tobacco smoke. All Lorain County Metro Parks and many local municipal parks have tobacco-free policies. Learn other tips and tricks to support your quit journey at LorainCountyHealth.com/QuitNow.
