Lorain Man Sentenced For Illegally Having Ammunition: DOJ
Ronald Mickel was barred from having a gun or ammunition due to previous felony convictions, the Department of Justice said.
LORAIN, OH — A Lorain man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for illegally having ammunition, the Department of Justice announced.
Ronald Mickel, 41, from Lorain, was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Court Judge Sara Lioi. A federal jury previously convicted Mickel of being a felon in possession of ammunition.
In January 2019, Mickel was sentenced to 3 years of community supervision after he was convicted of domestic violence in the Lorain County Common Pleas Court, court documents said.

In November 2019, parole officers learned Mickel had illegally acquired a gun, court documents said. Later that month, Mickel tested positive for THC, a violation of his conditional release, court documents added.
After the positive test was returned, court documents said, parole officers searched Mickel's home and found 32 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 16 grams of suspected marijuana, court documents said. The 41-year-old was taken into custody and charged with one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition.

Besides convictions for illegally having ammunition and domestic violence, Mickel has also been convicted of aggravated robbery (1999), assault (2013), and domestic violence (three counts in 2015), the Department of Justice said.
The ATF and Ohio Adult Parole Authority conducted the investigation into Mickel.
