New Gazebo Coming To Veterans Park In Avon Lake

The project was announced last week during the Avon Lake City Council meeting.

AVON LAKE, OH — Thanks to a pending state grant, the city will be adding a new gazebo to Veterans Memorial Park. Mayor Greg Zilka announced the project at the March 5 Avon Lake City Council meeting. He said the city should have access to state funding by mid-Summer.

"That will be a big help for us to complete our project along Veterans Park to make it more effective and usable," he said.

Zilka added that there has also been talk of adding a monument of some kind to the park. With the city's bicentennial approaching, he believes a monument could provide a space to place mementos during the city's celebration.

"We hope to make it something that's not just functional but a real architectural statement," Zilka said at the council meeting.

He added that one possible goal for the site is to make it attractive enough to young couple that people may want to get married at the park, possibly in the lake house.

Zilka thanked the state legislature for considering Avon Lake's request for funds. He said the city did not get everything they asked for but that "$50,000 takes us a long way to getting that done."
