Powerful Storm To Hit Avon, Avon Lake

Wind gusts could hit 60 mph on Friday afternoon or evening, the National Weather Service said.

AVON, OH — A powerful storm will hit Lorain County on Friday afternoon and evening. Wind gusts could hit 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

"A line of showers will develop just west of I-71 late morning and move east across the area through the early afternoon. The primary threat with this line includes scattered thunderstorms and the potential for pockets of damaging winds reaching 50-60 mph," the National Weather Service said.

Temperatures are expected to drop nearly 40 degrees on Friday, with a high in the mid-60s and a low in the mid-20s. Bursts of rain will presage the drop in temperature.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for much of Northeast Ohio on Friday, including Lorain County and Cuyahoga County. Storms are expected to hit the region between Friday afternoon and Friday evening.

The rain should dry up by Saturday, but the cold temperatures will remain. Current forecasts project a high in the low 30s on Saturday and a high in the low 40s on Sunday.
