Scammer Steals Avon Lake Resident's Identity: Blotter

Police found drugs during a traffic stop, are looking for missing prescription meds, and more.

AVON LAKE, OH — A con artist used an Avon Lake resident's identity to file for unemployment benefits, police announced.

Similar scams have been occurring throughout the state, many taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic. Gov. Mike DeWine has said officials will fully investigate the numerous false claims of unemployment.

Theft, Jan. 31 — Prescription medication was taken from a home on Somerset Lane.

Traffic complaint, Feb. 1 —Police stopped a car on Avon Belden Road. The vehicle did not have its headlights on while driving at night. The driver had a suspended license and was issued multiple citations.

Traffic complaint, Feb. 2 — A Ford F150's driver was cited for exceeding weight limits on an Avon Lake road.

Traffic complaint, Feb. 10 — Police stopped a care because it's back license plate was not illuminated. Officers found narcotics and drug paraphernalia in the car, and the driver was cited.
