Severe Thunderstorm Watch In Lorain County

Storms could produce hail and damaging winds could sweep through much of the county on Sunday.

AVON LAKE, OH — A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Lorain County on Sunday. Storms could bring damaging hail, driving rains and howling winds to the region. An isolated tornado could be possible, the National Weather Service warned.

"A few strong to severe thunderstorms may be possible this afternoon and evening across northern Ohio into northwest Pennsylvania," the National Weather Service warned. "Large hail up to quarter size and damaging wind gusts up to 65 mph will be the main threats. An isolated tornado threat can`t be ruled out."

The severe thunderstorm watch will remain in place until at least 10 p.m. on Sunday. Inclement weather could continue throughout the early portion of the coming work week, with possible thunderstorms on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

A brief heat wave brought temperatures into the 90s over the weekend. Once the storms pass through Ohio, temperatures will drop consistently into the 70s, the National Weather Service predicted.
