'Show Kindness,' Lorain County Health Says As Mandates Drop Away

Longstanding COVID-19 health mandates are being lifted for vaccinated Ohioans, but many people face anxiety about restarting old habits.

AVON LAKE, OH — As Ohio lifts COVID-19 health mandates for vaccinated residents, many people are nervous about returning to their pre-pandemic lifestyle.

“Even though we’ve longed to get back to normal, some people face increased anxiety as we collectively return to pre-pandemic activities. Let’s be kind and encouraging as we get back to normal," said Lorain County Public Health Director Dave Covell.

If Lorain County residents are losing sleep or feel overwhelmed by their anxieties about reopening, Covell recommends talking to your doctor or mental health professional. Ohioans can also call the CareLine at 1-800-720-9616 to get free, confidential support. The line is open at all times.

“The last year has been a big reminder that we all need kindness. So, let’s continue to show kindness to ourselves and others," Covell said.

Nearly 47 percent of Lorain County residents have at least started the COVID-19 vaccine process. That means 143,997 Lorain County residents have received either the first shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
