Small Business Grant Program Closes In Avon Lake

AVON LAKE, OH — Avon Lake's COVID-19 Small Business Relief Grant program has closed.

In November 2020, Avon Lake City Council approved the use of $100,000 of CARES Act funds to establish the grant program. Businesses could apply for grants of up to $2,500. The money could be used for payroll, rent payments, utility payments and other qualified expenses. s

The funds were distributed through the Lorain County Chamber of Commerce, which evaluated applications.

Initially, the program was only open to businesses with a primary place of business in Avon Lake and between three and 20 employees. In January, the program was amended to allow businesses with fewer than three employees to receive grants. By Feb. 18, the program had distributed its final funds.

“The city of Avon Lake was very pleased to be able to help our small businesses during a time of economic crisis due to COVID-19,” said Mayor Greg Zilka. “We are fortunate to have the opportunity to work with the Lorain County Chamber of Commerce as it was able to help us administer the grants in a timely manner.”
