Snow, Frigid Temperatures Headed Toward Avon, Avon Lake

Christmas Eve will bring snow and single-digit temperatures to Lorain County.

AVON LAKE, OH — A winter storm is headed toward Lorain County.

The National Weather Service warns that a cold front will blow into Ohio on Thursday morning, gradually turning rain to snow by mid-afternoon. The agency predicts 1 to 4 inches of snow is likely to accumulate during the day.

Additional snowfall is expected Thursday evening and a winter weather advisory may be issued at that time.

"Much colder air is expected to move into the area after sunset Christmas Eve and remain over the area into Saturday. Gusty westerly winds will cause wind chill temperatures to dip into the single digits Christmas Eve through Saturday morning," the National Weather Service said.

Temperatures are expected to dramatically drop on Thursday. Christmas Eve will have a high of 50 degrees and a low of 20 degrees, according to forecasts. With wind chill, temperatures will be in the single digits.

Christmas Day will see more snow and a high of 25 degrees, with a low of 17 degrees overnight. Another 1 to 2 inches of snow could fall on Christmas Day.
