Councilperson Mark Spaetzel will seek another term as the representative for Ward 3.

AVON LAKE, OH — Mark Spaetzel will run for reelection to Avon Lake City Council.

Spaetzel was appointed to city council in 2020, filling the space vacated by Gary Izo, who left for medical reasons. If reelected, Spaetzel would represent Avon Lake's Ward 3 on council.

Before retiring, Spaetzel was the police chief for Bay Village. He touted his nearly 35 years of municipal experience.

“Campaigning is not something I ever thought about doing. I just enjoy the work, talking with residents and getting things done. I look forward to the challenges ahead and to continuing my work on the Avon Lake City Council for Ward III," Spaetzel said in a statement sent to Patch.

Spaetzel said 2020 was a difficult year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but he said was optimistic about the future of the city. He said Avon Lake will remain a great place to "live, work and play."
