Tree City USA: Avon Lake Earns Prestigious Title
Avon Lake has again been named one of Ohio's best cities for trees.

AVON LAKE, OH — The city of Avon Lake has again been named a 2020 Tree City USA.
"Tree City USA communities see the impact an urban forest has in a community first hand," said Dan Lambe, president of the Arbor Day Foundation. "The trees being planted and cared for by Avon Lake are ensuring that generations to come will enjoy to a better quality of life."
The Arbor Day Foundation gives the Tree City designation to municipalities that demonstrate their support for urban forestry.

In Ohio, more than 240 cities received the Tree City USA resignation. Statewide there have been 25,649 trees planted and more than $43 million spent on urban forestry management since the program began.
The Arbor Day Foundation said cities must uphold four core standards to qualify for a Tree City designation: employing a Tree Department, establishing a Tree Care ordinance, maintaining a Community Forestry Program and organizing an annual Arbor Day observance.

"Additionally, participation in this program brings residents together and creates a sense of civic pride, whether it's through volunteer engagement or public education," Lambe said.
