Ahuja Medical Center Gets 'C' For Hospital Safety

The nonprofit group Leapfrog gave the Beachwood hospital a "C" grade for safety.

BEACHWOOD, OH — University Hospitals' Ahuja Medical Center got a "C" grade on Leapfrog's hospital safety report card.

The Leapfrog Group explains that its rating system is focused entirely on errors, accidents, injuries and infections. The hospital safety grades are released by the nonprofit group twice a year, in the spring and in the fall.

Last year, Ahuja got a "B" grade in the spring and a "C" grade in the fall for safety. This year, the grade fell to a "C" in the spring.

According to Leapfrog, Ahuja got below average scores in MRSA infections, c. diff infections, blood infections, infections in the urinary tract, and were scored below average in how doctors order and administer medication. Ahuja was also slightly below average on staff responsiveness.

Leapfrog found that of the more than 2,600 hospitals graded in the country, 32 percent earned an A grade, findings that were unchanged from the group’s last round of rankings released in Fall 2018. There were more than 40 hospitals in Ohio that received an "A" grade.
