DIRECTIONS AND GRAND OPENING INFORMATION:

Barkwood is located at Beachwood City Park East, which is east of Richmond Road. A parking lot is available on Shaker Blvd. eastbound, about 100 yards from the intersection of Richmond Road.

The Barkwood Grand Opening is scheduled for Sunday, September 22 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Activities will include a pet caricaturist, refreshments for 2- and 4-legged guests, and doggie swag-bag giveaways. During the grand opening, the Barkwood parking lot will be closed. Guests may park across the street at the Mandel JDS campus (26500 Shaker Blvd.) and walk across the street to access Barkwood. Beachwood Police will be there to ensure the safety of pedestrians.

Barkwood Dimensions

Barkwood is split into two sections: one for small dogs (less than 30 pounds) and one for larger dogs

(more than 30 pounds). The small-dog area is 45’ x 135’. The large-dog area is 120’ x 135’.

The total area of Barkwood is 165’ x 135’, which is slightly larger than a half-acre (22,275 sq. feet).

Barkwood features 45-degree corners: the lack of right angles means that dogs are less likely to be cornered, which will help limit aggression.

Barkwood Materials

Barkwood is entirely covered by SYNLawn artificial pet grass. SYNlawn does not require watering or mowing. It will prevent muddy paws and help dogs stay clean. Envirofill antimicrobial protection is brushed into the SYNlawn as a one-time application. The Envirofill prevents the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew. To the best of our knowledge, Barkwood is Ohio’s only 100% synthetic-turf dog park. SYNlawn is:

Barkwood will be ringed and split by a 5-feet-tall chain-link fence. It will feature a “doggy airlock” where pets can be secured and leashes removed before entering Barkwood proper. A water fountain will be available for both human and canine parkgoers.

Accessing Barkwood

For now, Barkwood is only available to Beachwood residents, who must register their dog(s) at the Community Services Department at City Hall, 25325 Fairmount Blvd. Owners must complete an application and supply proof of residency, proof of canine vaccinations, and $25 for annual key-fob access to Barkwood.
