Beachwood Council Approves $20 Million Plan for Rehab Building

The City Council approved a preliminary plan Monday night for a Cleveland Clinic rehabilitation facility.

Beachwood’s City Council and Planning & Zoning Commission approved plans for an estimated $20 million Cleveland Clinic rehabilitation hospital on Monday. The plan calls for a single-story 60-bed facility to be built within the city’s Cleveland Clinic campus.

Measuring a little more than 60,000 square feet, this would be the first building on the 50 acre campus to be used for medical purposes rather than an office building according to a cleveland.com article.

The desire for a one-story facility was a driving force in selecting the large plot of land for the project, as it would eliminate the need to transport patients up and downstairs.

Select Medical Corporation (Cleveland Clinic’s partner on the project) VP of Design and Construction Dan Blaker told the Commission and Council that the cost would probably be upwards of $20 million, though he did not have a specific cost. They will also open a facility with Cleveland Clinic in Avon.

Blaker also said that the the building should be operational by the last half of 2017 if all goes according to plan, however they will need to appear again before the Planning Commission with finalized plans before construction can begin.
