Council Meetings Could Soon Be Broadcast On TV, Online

The council is discussing the best way to go about live-streaming and broadcasting their meetings.

BEACHWOOD, OH - Beachwood residents could soon cozy up on their couches with a bowl of popcorn and watch a city council meeting.

The Beachwood City Council met Monday to discuss the possibility of broadcasting meetings online or on local television stations, which a number of local city councils already do, Cleveland.com reported.

"It's a reflection on our city," Council President Martin Horwitz said, according to Cleveland.com. "We pride ourselves on doing things better than other cities. We're behind (other cities). If they can do it, why can't we?"

The entire council was in favor of the effort and are now working out the best way to go about it, according to Cleveland.com.

Some options for broadcasting meetings include using computer cameras, purchasing a single camera for about $500 or investing in a $60,000 multiple-camera studio, Cleveland.com reported.

"We'll (the Internal Communications Committee) look at two to four cameras and what it will cost to record, archive and run it. This (meeting) is just a baby step," Economic Development Director Jim Doutt told Cleveland.com.
