I-271 Construction Could Impact East Side Drivers

BEACHWOOD, OH — Construction on I-271 could impact drivers in Beachwood and throughout the east side this week. The Ohio Department of Transportation has crew widening the interstate on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Starting at 10 p.m. on Wednesday night, I-480 east, running up to the I-271 south merger, will be down to one lane for pavement tie-in work, ODOT said. Overnight on Wednesday, crews will also close the left lane on I-271 south, at Alexander Road, at 8 p.m. and the right lane on I-271 north, near Broadway/Forbes, at 11 p.m. They will remain closed until 6 a.m. on Thursday.

ODOT crews will also close down the right lane of I-271 south near Miles Road on Wednesday night, putting all traffic into the left contraflow lane. That traffic pattern will remain in place until 6 a.m. on Thursday.

"I-271 south traffic wanting to access Rockside Road or Broadway/Forbes MUST detour via I-480 west to Miles Road to I-271 south. There is NO access to Rockside Road or Broadway/Forbes via the contraflow lane," ODOT said in a statement.

From Thursday night until Friday morning, crews will close the US 422 westbound ramp to I-271 south (starting at 8 p.m.); and will also close the right lane of I-271 south near Rockside Road, and the Rockside exit ramp, from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m.

Here's the detour for drivers impacted by ODOT's construction:

U.S. 422 west motorists will be detoured via I-480 west to Miles Rd. to I-271 south. I-271 south motorists destined for Rockside Rd. will be detoured via I-271 south to Broadway/Forbes to I-271 north to Rockside Rd.
