Maltz Museum Free On MLK Jr. day

The museum will have musical performances and a panel discussion on race in contemporary America.

BEACHWOOD, OH — In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage will open its doors to the public for a free, daylong event honoring MLK's legacy. The event will include live music performances, access to the museum's current exhibits and a panel discussion on civil rights in contemporary America.

Throughout the day there will be crafts and hands-on activities for families to engage in. Attendees can also check out Beyond Chicken Soup: Jews & Medicine in America, the current exhibit at Maltz. The exhibit explores the struggle for equality in healthcare and provides a glimpse into the future of medicine in America.

Some portions of Monday's event do require registration.

The registration-required events start at 11 a.m. with a performance from On the One, a band made up of kids enrolled in the Let It Ride — Game Ready 4 Life work-based learning program and their music instructors. The group will play a mix of R&B, rock, funk and soul. Register to check out their performance by clicking here.

The Evelyn Wright Quartet will take the stage at 1 p.m. Expect a jazzier set from a group that has opened for Mel Torme, Joan Rivers, and Harry Belafonte and more. Register for that performance by clicking here.

Finally, at 3 p.m., there will be a panel discussion on race, gender and civil rights today. The panel will be composed of Margaret Mitchell of the YWCA, Peggy Zone-Fisher of The Diversity Center, Jazmin Long of Global Cleveland, and Kayla Griffin of the NAACP.
