ORANGE VILLAGE, OH — The Ohio House of Representatives will consider naming a stretch of I-271 the “Ronald H. Barron Memorial Highway" in honor of the former Orange Village councilman.

The legislation renaming the portion of highway was introduced by State Rep. Juanita Brent, a Democrat from Cleveland. “Councilman Barron had key influence in the development of the Pinecrest shopping area in Orange. It was his brainchild and it has had a positive, lasting impact on our community,” said Brent.

Barron was a member of the Orange Village council for five years. Before a life in politics, he was a consultant for different businesses and medical organization. He was once the Chairman of the Medication Safety Committee at MetroHealth, before his election.

Barron passed away in April 2019. He was married to his wife, Laurie and was the father of Alison Barron and Ashley Fisher, and the grandfather of Gabe Sonderman, Phoebe Sonderman, and Spencer Fisher. He was 72.

"As the mayor of Orange Village, I have worked with quite a few council people over the years. Some have been good, some have been great, but Ron was exceptional,” said Orange Mayor Kathy Mulcahy. “Ron was the ultimate team player who contributed in a huge way.”
