RTA Uppercut Passenger, Driver Sentenced to Jail
Shidea Lane and Artis Hughes both to spend time behind bars for incident that was caught on video that went viral on a bus in Beachwood last year

Both parties involved in the infamous "RTA uppercut" altercation caught on video in Beachwood last year have been sentenced to jail, news agencies report.
Both parties took plea deals after the altercation between bus driver Artis Hughes, 59, and passenger Shidea Lane, 25, on the Chagrin Boulevard bus in September 2012 over Lane's fare.Â
Tuesday Shidea Lane was sentenced to 30 days in jail — with 27 days suspended — and a $250 fine, Fox8 reports.
Hughes was sentenced on July 16 to 90 days in jail — with 87 days suspended — and a $1,000 fine, The Plain Dealer reported.
The suspended sentences require that the two each serve three days in jail, but a judge could send them back to serve the remainder if they violate probation or are arrested again.
A viral video shot by someone else on the bus shows Lane arguing with the driver, possibly spitting in his face, and Hughes uppercutting her and throwing her off the bus.
