University Heights Resident Heading To National NUMAL Competition

The regional event, held in Portsmouth, Ohio, challenges students to argue the positions and foreign policy objectives of Arab countries.

From JCU:Sally Makki Abed Al-Qaraghuli of University Heights is a member of the John Carroll University Model Arab League team that recently participated in the Ohio Valley Model Arab League (OVMAL) competition. The regional event, held in Portsmouth, Ohio, challenges students to argue the positions and foreign policy objectives of Arab countries. Students learn about the politics and history of the Arab world, and the arts of diplomacy and public speech.

John Carroll team members represented the country of Kuwait; they joined 15 other universities in a simulation of the League of Arab States. John Carroll won the "Best Delegation Award," which is the regional program's highest honor.

As a result of their success, the JCU team will travel to Georgetown University in April to participate in the National University Model Arab League (NUMAL).
