Ash Wednesday Worship Service

You are warmly invited to observe Ash Wednesday at 7:30pm on Wednesday, February 10, at Brecksville United Methodist Church.

February 10, Ash Wednesday, marks the beginning of the season of Lent, a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and/or spiritual discipline. If the idea of Lent is new to you, here are some things to consider.

Lent is certainly a time for personal reflection and recognition of areas in which you may wish to grow as an individual. But it is also about taking an honest look at the community and world that surrounds us and being forthright about ways that we have fallen short as a human community.

The Ash Wednesday worship service at Brecksville United Methodist Church is a time of quiet reflection that invites you to take a closer look inward and outward. You may discover areas for personal growth as well as ways you feel called to make a difference in the community around you. The imposition of ashes--having the sign of the cross gently placed on your hand or forehead--is a traditional part of the Ash Wednesday service, though no one is required to participate. If you so choose, it can be a powerful and important reminder of the decision to walk mindfully through the season of Lent all the way to Easter and into new life.
