Brecksville High School student chosen for Macy's All American Marching Band

A freshman student from Brecksville-Broadview Hts. High School has been selected to represent Ohio in the Macy’s Great American Marching Band, which will perform in the 2016 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. BBHHS student Zachary Ravagnani will join student musicians selected from the other 49 states for a unique opportunity to perform in the this famous parade. Zachary plays alto saxophone in the BBH High school marching band. He is a member of the high school wind ensemble and jazz band as well as the prestigious Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony.

Honoring America’s finest high school musicians, the Macy’s Great American Marching Band is comprised of select students from each of the 50 states in grades 9-12, chosen through auditions and/or special invitation based on participation in noteworthy programs. Students are selected based on their musical ability and past achievements. The opportunity is open to students from over 14,000 high schools across the United States.Directed by Dr. Richard Good of Auburn University and assistant director Barry House of the University of Illinois, the band’s 185 musicians will step off from Central Park and be cheered on by the 2.5 million spectators along the parade route. Once arriving at Macy’s Herald Square, the band will perform for celebrity hosts, a grandstand audience and more than 50 million TV viewers watching the live broadcast.

The students will travel to New York the week before Thanksgiving and will participate in several days of intense rehearsal, uniform fittings and leadership seminars. They will also tour some of the sights of New York and conclude with a dinner dance Thanksgiving evening.
