St. Michael School Kindergarten Boot Camp Prepares Students to Enter School with Confidence and Excitement
St. Michael School offers a kindergarten boot camp each summer to help prepare students to enter school in the fall with confidence.
On July 10, 2017, 21 Kindergarten recruits enlisted in a week-long Kindergarten Boot Camp at the St. Basil Campus of St. Michael School. The week began with a visit from General/Principal Mrs. Margaret Campisi to welcome the recruits. Each day began with a salute to Jesus in prayer.
Under the direction of Captains/Teachers Mrs. Laura Ambrose and Mrs. Sue DiGeronimo, the recruits attended mini-camps 1-2-3 and A-B-C.
With the help of St. Michael eighth grade Drill Sergeants Carmela Ciccolini, Angelo Ciccolini, Sonia Sajovie, Grace Gallucci, and Dino Anthony, the recruits practiced letter recognition, cutting skills, as well as counting drills.

"Boot Camp was not all hard work, we made time for plenty of fun," said DiGeronimo. "We made 'Jesus is the Light of the World' campfires, flippy floppy fish, and learned about primary colors and how to create new colors on coffee filters. The children loved being introduced to learning through technology with our touch screen, interactive whiteboards in our classrooms. It's just a sampling of what they will experience in the upcoming school year." STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities were incorporated into many of the recruits’ lessons at the SMS Kindergarten Boot Camp as well.
"A big salute to all our recruits," said Ambrose. "They successfully completed Boot Camp and are ready to take on kindergarten with confidence. We can't wait to welcome these students to our school in August."
