Two Men Nabbed for Allegedly Nabbing Parcels From Porches

Police not sure if suspects are responsible for any of dozens of similar thefts reported recently in the West Shore area.

The Grinch visited at least two Westlake homes Wednesday in the form of two Cleveland men suspected of stealing Christmas gifts from people’s front porches.

According to a report by the Northeast Ohio Media Group, Jamir Johnson, 22, and Hermon Toney, 28, have been charged with several counts of theft, possessing criminal tools and illegally carrying certain weapons. Johnson faces additional charges, according to a NewsNet5 report, including illegal possession/abuse of food stamps and criminal trespass.

A Stonehedge Drive, Westlake, man reportedly called police at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, saying he witnessed the passenger of a black Cadillac pilfer a parcel from a neighbor’s front porch, according to the police report cited in the NEOMG article.

Soon after, the report said, a North Olmsted officer pulled over the car after it entered that community, at which time the two men were arrested.

The NEOMG reported that police searched the Cadillac and found packages stolen from two Stonehedge Drive homes, as well as a stun gun, gloves and knives. along with gloves, knives and a stun gun inside the Cadillac.

Johnson reportedly was charged with possessing marijuana after allegedly bringing pot into the jail.

The NEOMG article noted that police departments along the West Shore have been receiving dozens of reports of parcels being ripped off from people’s front porches.
