Cincinnati Election Winners: Mayor, City Council
John Cranley wins his mayoral re-election bid. Find out which nine city council candidates earned seats Tuesday night.

CINCINNATI, OH — Cincinnati's incumbent mayor John Cranley won his re-election bid, defeating challenger Yvette Simpson Tuesday night. Cranley called himself the "comeback kid," noting he came in second behind Simpson in the May primary election.
"This comeback city has made me the comeback kid," Cranley said in a Cincinnati.com report. "We won back our own hearts. We believe in ourselves again."
Cranley was first elected to the mayor's chair in 2013, and was running for re-election for the first time. Cranley was a member of the Cincinnati City Council from 2000-2009.

Simpson was first elected to city council in 2011, she serves as Chair of the Human Services, Youth, and Arts committee, and serves on the Budget & Finance, Law and Public Safety, Neighborhoods and Major Transportation and Regional Cooperation committees. Simpson is also a member of the Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission, as appointed by the City Planning Commission.

Six incumbents were re-elected to the Cincinnati City Council Tuesday night. Nine candidates were elected overall.

P.G. Sittenfeld led the race with 38,594 votes. He was followed by David Mann, Chris Seelbach, Wendell Young, Christopher Smitherman, Tamaya Dennard, Greg Landsman, Amy Murray and Jeff Pastor.
The election for Cincinnati City Council was one of the more unique races in recent years, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Voters pared down 23 candidates to nine Tuesday evening. Check out the Enquirer's field guide to this diversely-constituted group:
