Kroger Stops Selling Guns, Ammo To People Under 21 At Fred Meyer

Kroger, the largest chain of grocery stores in the US, won't sell guns and ammo to people under 21-years-old at its Fred Meyer stores

CINCINNATI, OH – Kroger, the largest chain of grocery stores in the United States, is no longer selling guns and ammunition to people younger than 21 years old at their Fred Meyer stores.

The announcement only affects their 43 Fred Meyer stores in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Other chains owned by Kroger do not sell guns and ammunition.

The company had already stopped selling assault-style weapons at those stores several years ago.

Kroger says the decision was made in reaction to the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

"We've taken a hard look at at our policies and procedures for firearm sales," the company said in a statement. "Recent events demonstrate the need for additional action on the part of responsible gun retailers.

"We believe these are common sense steps we can take immediately that ar ein line with our values and our vision."

Kroger is the third major chain in just more than 24 hours to announce a change in their policy when it comes to selling guns..

On Wednesday, both Dick's Sporting Goods and Walmart announced changes in what they will sell and to whom.
