Rhia Batson Named New Career Counselor

UI&U Career Services focuses on helping students and graduates successfully market themselves to find the job of their dreams.

Rhia Batson has been named the new Career Counselor in Career Services department at Union Institute & University. Career services focuses on helping students and graduates successfully market themselves to find the job of their dreams.

Batson is taking an innovative approach to her new role. “I want students and graduates to sell what is different about them,” said Batson. “I want to help them discover the unique skill-set they bring to the prospective employer.”

Dr. Jay Keehn, Associate Dean, Student Success, says Batson is a passionate student centered professional.

“Rhia has a clear global picture of the interconnectedness of the various student support departments in higher education. Additionally, she has been with Union for three years and is quite knowledgeable of our student population, and their unique needs. Rhia is a creative thinker, go getter, tireless advocate, and passionate student affairs professional. I look forward to having Rhia as a positive connector for our students. She is an awesome addition to the Office of Student Success.”

Batson’s goals include the improvement of the delivery of career services through accessibility, create special topic webinars on career pathways, improve the job board offerings, and be inventive in her approach to reaching out to students, alumni, and staff.

“My career goal has always been to serve in higher education. I believe education is the best platform to make a difference,” said Batson. “This new position offers the opportunity to look at students’ needs as a whole and that is exciting.”

Batson holds a Master’s of Science in Education from the University of Dayton and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wilmington College.
