Senior Executive Joins Union Institute & University

Union Institute & University is proud to announce the election of Julie S. Washington, a local Cincinnati resident, to its Board of Trustees. Mrs. Washington is an accomplished senior executive who currently serves as Chief Marketing Officer of Champion Petfoods, an award-winning global pet food manufacturer of the ORIJEN and ACANA brands. Her career spans over two decades in senior leadership positions at global companies, including Procter & Gamble, the Gillette Company, Nestlé Purina Petcare, Jamba Juice and Luxottica.

Dr. Roger Sublett, president of Union Institute & University, is looking forward to Washington’s leadership on the board of trustees. “Julie brings extensive experience in strategic vision and planning, business leadership, team development and innovative problem solving,” said Dr. Sublett. “She is widely recognized as an executive who focuses on growth and unlocking potential in people. She will be a great addition to assist the university as we focus on enrollment growth.”

Mrs. Washington is committed to community and sits on the board of Women Helping Women, Longwood University Corporate Advisory Council, Hoxworth Blood Center Advisory Council, and Mason City School District Business Advisory and Diversity Council Committees. In acknowledging her election to the UIU Board, Washington stated, “Education is the gateway that unlocks opportunities for everyone, regardless of our past or life situation. It is a privilege to partner with UIU trustees in delivering our mission of academic excellence and to share strategic and business ideas in the pursuit of our goals.”

Mrs. Washington is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Executive Education with a certificate in Driving Digital and Social Strategy. She received her M.B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis from the Olin Business School, and her B.A. from Emory University in chemistry and psychology.

Washington was elected at the January 25, 2018 Board of Trustees quarterly meeting. Her appointment is effective through January 25, 2020.
