The most popular boy’s name in Ohio in 2020 was Liam. Liam means a strong-willed warrior and protector. The name is a contraction of the Irish name Uilliam, which is derived from the Frankish name Willahelm, which means helmet of will.

As many as 53,868 boys were born in Ohio last year. Of them, 607, or 1.13%, were given the name Liam.

The second and third most popular boy names in the state in 2020 were Oliver and Noah, respectively. About 1.09% of boys born in the state, or 586 baby boys, were named Oliver. About 1.02%, or 551 newborn boys, were named Noah.

The most popular girl’s name in Ohio in 2020 was Olivia. The name is of Latin origin, derived from the word “oliva,” meaning “olive tree.”

As many as 47,384 girls were born in Ohio last year. Of them, 565 baby girls, or 1.19%, were given the name Olivia.

The second and third most popular girl names in the state in 2020 were Charlotte and Amelia, respectively. About 1.12% of girls born in Ohio, or 532 baby girls, were named Charlotte. About 1.11%, or 525 newborn girls, were named Amelia.

24/7 Tempo identified the most popular boys’ and girls’ names of babies born in every state in 2020 using data from the Social Security Administration, which recently released its annual list of top baby names in the U.S. The dataset includes 48,859 female births and 43,051 male births in 2020. These are the most popular baby names in every state in 2020.
