Roy Juno, a pop group composed of Berklee alumni including Sayak Das of Columbus, OH, will perform at Osheaga, one of Montreal’s popular summer festivals featuring six stages of music, on Friday, August 2. Osheaga is headlined this year by The Lumineers, Janelle Monae, Childish Gambino, and Hozier.

Led by alumnus lyricist/frontman Sayak Das, Roy Juno blends themes like struggling with identity, glorifying false heroes, and celebrity ego death, with sound design that transports the listener to an era where synthesizers were the vanguard of sensible pop. The rhythm section, alumni Henri Young and Josh Parra, pride themselves on seamlessly blending a wide range of backgrounds, resulting in a truly modern pop sound. Student guitarist James Marino conjures an explosive energy, pairing soaring leads with a gritty sound.

The major festival gig comes through Berklee’s Popular Music Institute (BPMI), which gives artists performance experience and prepares them for the evolving music landscape. Students also gain experience at each festival handling on-site promotion, production and tour management. Osheaga is one of six festivals BPMI artists are appearing at this summer.
