Coronavirus: Protesters Gather Outside Ohio Statehouse

The demonstrators called for the resignation of Gov. Mike DeWine​ over how he's handled the new coronavirus crisis.

COLUMBUS, OH — Protesters gathered outside the Ohio Statehouse Monday to call for the resignation of Gov. Mike DeWine. The group of demonstrators are upset with how the governor has handled the new coronavirus crisis, saying he doesn't have the power to shut down local businesses in the state.

Ben Schwartz, a reporter with WCPO, shared video of the protest on social media.

ABC 6 reporter Tom Bosco says another group of demonstrators in the area were heard chanting "Open Ohio" and carried signs reading "Quarantine Worse Than Coronavirus."

Ohio health officials say the state has had 6,975 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the outbreak began in March. As of Monday afternoon, 274 Ohioans have died due to complications from the virus.
