Equity|ECS Receives Community Leadership Award
Firm's CEO accepts award at Boy Scouts of America Leadership Luncheon in Columbus
HILLARD, Ohio– May 29, 2019 – Steve Wathen, CEO of Equity|ECS, a full service commercial real estate firm offering services for every phase of the project lifecycle, attended the Boy Scouts of America Simon Kenton Council Executive Board 2019 Leadership Luncheon at the Renaissance in Columbus, Ohio to receive the Community Leadership Award on behalf of the company. This recognition is presented to a company that has shown exemplary leadership through service to the central Ohio community and is highly regarded by its peers in the construction industry. Award recipients are selected by a Scouting volunteer committee of construction industry professionals.
“Equity|ECS has long been supportive of the Scouting program dating back to when Steve served on the council’s executive board from 2006-2009 as VP of Learning for Life, then later as VP of Marketing, and beginning in 2009 he joined the advisory board and has been active since” said SKC board member, Natalie McEntree. “As CEO of Equity|ECS, Steve leads by example in service to the community through his involvement with Youth Aviation Adventure (YAA), a national non-profit organization that educates young people about aviation.”
Wathen and friend Dan Kiser founded YAA in 1997, initially as a way to help scouts earn their Boy Scout Aviation Merit Badges. Steve and Dan enjoyed instilling their passion for aviation with Columbus area Scouts and decided to extend the program to all youth, ages 12 to 18, and ultimately expanded the program nationwide, serving scouts and other youth in cities across the country.

“Since 1987, it has been a top priority that my life values and the charitable work I do with these community organizations permeate into how we do business at Equity|ECS,” said Wathen. “At Equity, our mission statement isn’t just a set of words on a wall. It serves as our true moral compass and as a result, we have clients that have become life-long partners who trust us to always do the right thing for them and their businesses.”
In addition to Wathen’s work with the Boy Scouts of America, he is current chairperson of Franklinton Rising, a 501c3 nonprofit that teaches life skills, job skills and belief systems to at-risk youth in Columbus inner-city neighborhoods. He has also been on the Advisory Board of Pregnancy Decision Health Center (PDHC) for almost 20 years and serves as President of Gainesville Council on Aging, a non-profit organization serving needs of senior citizens in Gainesville Florida.
