Hottest Dance-Based Cardio Workout Shimmies into Powell
Local Friends and Entrepreneurs Debut First AKT Studio in Ohio

AKT, a new dance-cardio fitness concept featuring carefully curated playlists, high-energy music, disco ball bumping and a supportive community, opened in Powell on January 23. The new AKT studio, located at 9832 Brewster Lane, Suite C6, allows Powell residents to experience a full body workout that combines cardio dance intervals with strength and toning.
AKT has become increasingly popular because of its effective and fun dance-cardio technique touted by celebrities like Kelly Ripa, Shakira and Alicia Keys. Fueled by positivity, a combination of personal training and dance-cardio technique, each of the four class types – DANCE, BANDS, TONE and CIRCUIT – are kept fresh and entertaining since the choreography changes every three weeks. Each 60-minute, full-body workout class is designed to burn calories and strengthen and tone in an atmosphere that’s fun, exhilarating and results-driven.
AKT Powell is owned and operated by local entrepreneurs Leena Khandelwal and Rupalee Kadakia. Originally from India, Khandelwal has owned a tech company with her husband for 10 years. She was looking to open a new business that was fun and aligned with her passion for health and wellness. During that same time, Kadakia was looking for another opportunity to impact the community. Kadakia, who is also from India, moved to the U.S. in 1998 and has been friends with Khandelwal for eight years. She has been a business owner in Columbus for over 15 years. After Khandelwal was introduced to AKT, she brought it to Kadakia and they knew this would be a great addition to the Powell community. This is their first AKT, with plans to open two more.

“AKT really resonated with me when I first tried the classes. I love the workout and how much fun you have during it,” said Khandelwal. “My daughter is a dancer, so it’s been an important part of our lives for years, which is why we’re excited to open a fitness studio based on dance-cardio.”
The four signature class types at AKT are as follows:
