Legendary Columbus Event Celebrates 10 Years

Training, team building and fundraising start today for the 10th anniversary of a legendary Columbus event, the Fight For Air Climb at Rhodes Tower. The American Lung Association in Ohio announced that registration is now open for the event, set for Saturday, February 15.

The Fight For Air Climb invites individuals, families, groups of friends and corporate teams to race up the stairs of Rhodes Tower, a total of 40 floors, 880 steps. In addition, the Lung Association encourages firefighters to participate in the Firefighter Challenge, where teams of five or more firefighters compete for the title of the fastest fire department and top fundraising team. The teams are required to climb in full gear – helmet, mask, boots and air tank – which can add 50-75 pounds of weight as they climb Rhodes Tower.

“The fall is the perfect time to start building your team, training and fundraising for the Fight For Air Climb. Stair climbing is a great way to stay active during the chilly Ohio winters, but also provides a fun activity for families, team building for corporate teams and a fundraising activity for students,” said Brittany Sinzinger, senior manager of development for the Lung Association. “For our 10th anniversary, our Fight For Air Climb will be more impactful than ever. We encourage the whole community to get involved by participating, volunteering or simply donating to this important cause.”

In Ohio, more than 1.6 million people suffer from lung disease, and this year alone, more than 9,500 residents will be diagnosed with lung cancer. The Fight For Air Climb raises awareness for lung disease, raises money for life-saving research, and funds critical local programing like educational programs to help local children manage their asthma and free programs to help locals quit smoking.
