Ohio Connections Academy Opens Enrollment for 2021-22

Equipped with nearly 20 years of expertise in online learning, families are invited to enroll their students in the trusted online school

Ohio Connections Academy (OCA), a tuition-free, full-time public virtual school serving K-12 students throughout the state, officially opened enrollment on February 3rd for the 2021-22 academic year.

For nearly two decades, Ohio Connections Academy has been providing students with continuous support of highly-skilled teachers and curriculum that focuses on both academics and social-emotional learning, while helping them gain the skills and confidence they need to thrive in a changing world.

As school districts across Ohio faced the difficult challenge to provide distance learning opportunities to students due to the pandemic, parents turned to Ohio Connections Academy for its leadership and expertise in providing a continuous online program built specially for the virtual environment.

“At Ohio Connections Academy we offer teachers who are experts in virtual education, a curriculum that meets the students wherever they are academically and keeps them engaged and motivated to succeed,” said Ohio Connections Academy Superintendent Marie Hanna. “Parents find stability in our virtual school and appreciate how our highly individualized approach empowers their children to learn and ultimately take ownership of their academic experiences.”

Families choose Ohio Connections Academy for a variety of reasons. Students with health issues or who are highly involved in activities outside of school succeed in the online environment because it offers a more flexible schedule. Other students benefit from the ability to work at their own individual pace with learning plans tailored to match their interests, needs and abilities or from the personal attention they receive from teachers who work to create meaningful connections with learning.

At Ohio Connections Academy, parents and caregivers are considered “Learning Coaches” and are core members of their child’s learning team working closely with teachers to set daily routines and monitor their student’s participation and progress. According to the results of the 2020 Parent Satisfaction survey, 93 percent of parents agree their children are satisfied with the program and 90 percent agree the teachers improve the learning experience.

With the pandemic this past year, many students made the switch to Ohio Connections Academy in search of a continuous online program that supports their individual needs. Dawn Koukios, of North Royalton, enrolled her daughter, Sophia, in Ohio Connections Academy because they were concerned what her learning experience would be in a traditional public school.

“When our daughter’s school announced it would operate in a hybrid model due to the pandemic, we made the decision to move her to Ohio Connections Academy to be in a more consistent learning environment,” Dawn said. “It’s unrealistic to think children can effectively learn going back and forth from remote to hybrid learning. In her virtual classroom, Sophia knows what is expected of her every single day and she can work at her own pace. We also know the lessons in advance to plan our schedules accordingly.”
