Ohio Connections Academy Recognizes Columbus Student

Star Student Award recognizes students for achievement in and out of the virtual classroom

Malia Hedlund of Columbus, was recently named one of Ohio Connections Academy’s (OCA) Star Students for the month of May in recognition of her academic achievements and leadership.

Malia, a fifth-grade student at the statewide online public charter school, was nominated by her teacher Ms. Shafer in recognition of her hard work and determination to successfully transition into the virtual classroom. As a Star Student, Malia will be presented a certificate recognizing her achievement and be profiled in Ohio Connections Academy’s student newsletter and on the school’s website. Each month OCA recognizes two students in each of the four grade bands for their achievements in and out of the classroom.

Malia’s parents, Jeff and Christina, enrolled both of their daughters in Ohio Connections Academy this year when they determined the traditional school environment wasn’t meeting their individual needs. According to Christina, she likes being more involved in her daughters’ education and believes learning online from home helps them to be more accountable for their work.
