Ohio Connections Academy Recognizes Columbus Students
Star Student Award recognizes students for achievement in and out of the virtual classroom
Two students from Columbus were recently selected by the faculty and staff at Ohio Connections Academy to be among the online charter school’s Star Students for the month of October. Each month the statewide school recognizes students for their achievements and leadership in the virtual classroom.
Drayton Ellis, a second grader at Ohio Connections Academy, was nominated by his teacher Mrs. Welty because of the kindness and respect he shows to everyone and the hard work he puts into his schoolwork. Drayton has been enrolled in Ohio Connections Academy since he started Kindergarten as his mother Abigayle wanted him in an academic setting where he would be free of the distractions of a traditional classroom. Drayton likes the LiveLesson virtual classroom where he can work with his teachers and interact with other children.
Heaven Love, a sophomore at OCA, was nominated by her English teacher Mrs. Payton because she takes ownership of her education and continues to demonstrate her understanding of what it requires to grow as a student. Heaven came to Ohio Connections Academy in 2013 in search of a more challenging learning environment. She believes she has to work harder at OCA and the online school pushes her to be better.

As Star Students of the Month, Drayton and Heaven will be presented a certificate recognizing their achievement and be profiled in the student newsletter and on the school’s website.
“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are proud to recognize students like Drayton and Heaven and the commitment they demonstrate to our school and their community,” said OCA Superintendent Marie Hanna. “Each of our Star Students are leaders in the classroom and demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to learning – they truly deserve this recognition.”
