Ohio Connections Academy Recognizes Westerville Student

Lilah Smith of Westerville, was recently named one of Ohio Connections Academy’s (OCA) Star Students for the month of May in recognition of her academic achievements and leadership in and outside the classroom.

Lilah, an eighth grader at the statewide online public charter school, was nominated by her Math teacher, Mrs. Carpenter, in recognition of her hard work this year and outstanding attitude towards learning in the online classroom. As a Star Student, Lilah will be presented a certificate recognizing her achievement and be profiled in Ohio Connections Academy’s student newsletter and on the school’s social media platforms. Each month during the school year, OCA will recognize students in grades K through 12 who are excelling in the virtual classroom.

“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are proud to recognize students like Lilah and the commitment they demonstrate to our school and their community,” said OCA Superintendent Marie Hanna. “Each of our Star Students is a leader in the classroom and demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to learning – they truly deserve this recognition.”

Lilah came to Ohio Connections Academy in 2017 after attending another online school. Lilah and her mother, Jennifer, believed OCA would provide an academic setting with more teacher interaction. According to Lilah, she appreciates how the teachers are always there to cheer her on and how they are accessible by phone or email whenever she needs help.

“OCA is a great school that is helpful and understanding,” she said. “Being able to set my own schedule and do schoolwork online sets me up for my future since I'm so versed in online programs.”
