Akron Children's Hospital Announces Patient Wish List, Guidelines

CUYAHOGA FALLS, OH -- Akron Children’s Hospital staff announced that the hospital is pleased to accept gifts from so many generous individuals and groups in the community on behalf of its patients.

Regarding gift donation questions or concerns, Akron-area residents can contact Volunteer Services at 330-543-8424, and Mahoning Valley-area residents can call 330-746-8352. Hospital staff will be happy to provide instructions for parking and delivery. Donations can be mailed to:

Because of privacy laws, donors are not permitted to deliver gifts directly to patients -- all donations are received via volunteer services, where they are stored and then distributed to patients.

Toy Donation Guidelines
To help ensure the safety of patients, please follow these guidelines when buying or preparing a gift:

• All toys and gifts must be new, in original packaging or with tags and unwrapped
• All items must be politically and religiously neutral.
• No toys or items that depict violence, including guns, swords and/or action fighting figures.
• Hand-made blankets and items must be clean and free of pet hair, odor and fragrances. Many patients have severe allergies.
• The hospital is not able to accept VHS or cassette tapes.
• Beanie Babies must be new, unused and have been stored in air-tight containers or bags.

Due to infection control, safety and allergy concerns:

• No candy, gum or food.
• No latex items, such as balloons or Band-Aids. Mylar balloons only.
• No beads, small or magnetic items or plastic bags that might cause a child to choke.

• If you would like hospital volunteers to do the shopping and purchase items from the Wish List, you may also make an online donation. Please indicate your donation is for Volunteer Services toys.
