Ahern's Demolition Day 2: The House Comes Down
The building is being demolish so a $2.2 million GetGo can be built at the corner of West Market Street and Trunko Road.
The West Market Street skyline (so to speak) changed Wednesday morning. Crews finished demolition on the former Ahern's Florist and Cavalier Cleaners building at the corner of West Market Street and Trunko Road.
Crews were on site early Tuesday to tear down the greenhouse in the back. The house came down Wednesday.
The building will be replaced by a $2.2 million Giant Eagle GetGo gas station. It will have six pumps and the convenience store.

Customers traveling east on West Market can make a right turn into GetGo, but have to exit at Trunko Road. Customers cannot access the gas station by making a left turn from West Market.
To accommodate the increased traffic at that intersection and on Trunko, Giant Eagle agreed to pay for more than half of the cost to widen Trunko Road to add a left turn lane. Trunko Road was closed most of the summer and recently opened with improve signalization.

Fairlawn Deputy Service Director Ernie Staten said the signals have changed in the following ways: There is no longer an extended green light going east on West Market. West Market going east and west stop at the same time to allow traffic on Ghent to go. Then drivers turning onto Market from Trunko are permitted to go.
