Bath Event Raises Money for Boston Marathon Victims

High school student organizes fundraisers to help those impacted by bombing

A fundraiser in Bath raised $800 to help victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.

More than 60 people attended the Bath Loves Boston event June 26 at The Bath Church United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall.

The donations will go to the HALO Foundation, which is supporting victims of the April 15 tragedy.

The event, called Bath Loves Boston, was created by Revere High School sophomore Dana McKinney.

The evening included appetizers and desserts, raffle prizes and a runway fashion show with music.

A number of local companies and individuals supported the event with donations of food, prizes and sponsorships, including Main Street Gourmet, Catering by Mark DiFeo, Old Carolina Barbecue, Mary Colarik, Tiffany Kert of Silpada Designs Jewelry, the Akron Beacon Journal, Akron Marathon, Gregg Mervis - Akron/Summit Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, Bath Church United Church of Christ, Currents, Custom Apparel, Dr. Eileen Goldman and Karen Williams - Ghent Family Practice, Graf Growers, Cindy and Jay Greyson, Leader Publications, Larry and Kathy McVay, ScripType Publishing, Time To Spare, LLC, and Wellness Works for You.

Magic acts performed by Jason Alan Magic entertained guests prior to the fashion show. 

McKinney asked friends to model summer fashions from their own wardrobes to the music provided by local residents Adam Johnson and Stephen Troike. Models included Kate Carlos, Cassidy Colarik, Tiffany Desatnik, Alex Fergason, Kailey Gentner, Quinn Kert, Marne Leuenberger, Dana McKinney, Natalie Palopoli, Megan Riley, Sarah Riley, and Mackenzie Zeller. 

Bath resident Karen Hernandez served as the event emcee. Anne Cannon of BeautiConrol treated the models to makeup and Cate Gordon of Primp - the Hair Salon offered  summer hairstyles.

Raffle prizes were provided by The Bake Shop in Ghent, CleverPup101 Dog Training, David Flynn Designs, Hale Farm & Village, Holiday Inn Akron-West, LaDaisy Boutique, Vicky Lantz Photography, the McKinney family, Loretta Bright – Melaleuca, Nannimals Animal Nannies, Precocious Dandelion, Time To Spare, LLC, and The Western Reserve Playhouse.
