New Animals and a New Look at Fairlawn's Learning Resource Center

City uses building to teach kids about nature

The newly remodeled Learning Resource Center at Fairlawn's Fort Island/Griffiths Park celebrated its grand re-opening Friday with tours for the public.

Parks and Recreation Director Laurie Beisecker said the remodeling, which was done mainly by the city's Service Department, came from a suggestion from Troy Dunn, the city's assistant naturalist.

"He said, let's spruce this place up -- give it a whole new look," Beisecker said.

The project started with replacing some cabinets, but because everything had to be moved to that, the staff decided to go for a whole new look, with more classroom space and a more user-friendly set-up, Dunn said.
