$1.1 Million In State Funds Going to Kent State, NEOMED

From the Office of State Representative Kathleen Clyde: State Rep. Kathleen Clyde (D-Kent) announced over $1.1 million in state funds for ongoing campus upgrades at the Northeast Ohio College of Medicine (NEOMED) and Kent State University (KSU).

“These projects pave the way for public health education here in Northeast Ohio,” said Rep. Clyde. “By investing in NEOMED and Kent State, we’re giving the next generation of healthcare professionals the tools they need to learn and develop the skills to help keep our communities healthy.”

Over $877,000 will go to NEOMED to fund a project to weatherproof and restore outside masonry on campus facilities. The renovations will remove decades of wear and tear and help to extend the lives of the buildings at the Rootstown campus.

The remaining funds, totaling over $225,000, will go toward renovations of Cartwright and Moulton Halls at KSU, which will house the expanding KSU College of Public Health. This next phase of construction includes building out administrative office space in Cartwright Hall and installing furnishings at the newly renovated Moulton Hall.

Established in 2009, the KSU College of Public Health has grown from 70 to 879 students, which has strained existing resources. When complete, facility upgrades will transform over 9,000 square feet of additional state-of-the-art classroom, administrative and research space for the college.

Rep. Clyde represents the 75th Ohio House District, serving Kent, Ravenna, Streetsboro, and central and southern Portage County.
