Commencement 2019

I'm just curious and disappointed as to why Kent State has decided to end the tradition of a guest speaker at commencement.

Yes the President is speaking, however, they always speak at commencement.

These students have EARNED (and paid for) the right to have someone present them with an outside perspective. To enlighten and engage them and provide a memory that encompasses Kents State's "global and diverse" philosophy.

It doesn't have to be someone who costs $100k and since Kent even has it's own guest speaker series-why isn't this part of that?

There are also community members that I know are willing and able to provide inspiration and fresh perspective, probably for free!

This is a true lack of respect to an entire graduating class that is already being contacted as "future alumni" to give back. Yet what is Kent State sending them off with? Debt and Bev.
