Kent State University

This is about KSU knowingly violating United States Environmental Protection Agency clean air standards for several months.

The office of the President of Kent State University and Kent State's Legal Affairs Office knowingly allowed the contractor for the new College of Architecture and Environmental Design building located between South Lincoln and South Willow Streets, to allow clouds of lung-clogging dust and dirt, fugitive dust in EPA lingo,   to blow across the street adversely affecting my rental property housing several Kent State students and restricting their ability for full enjoyment of the property.

This behavior went on for several months during the summer and fall of 2015 and nothing was done until I called the Akron office of the EPA to investigate, at which time the contractor immediately undertook measures to rectify the problem.  It would seem that a contractor able to construct a building of that magnitude would be aware of clean air standards and that the Kent State overseer of that project, a project containing the word "Environmental,"  would also be knowledgeable.  That does not seem to be the case.

What kind of person or persons would allow this kind of uncalled for,  behavior to continue for months after constant calls to office of the President , Beverly Warren?  Well, she finally promised an investigation of the situation to be conducted by a Mr. David Bruder of the Department of Architecture.   The results of that investigation, as relayed to me by Mr. Tom Euclide,  were that the contractor said he complied with all of my complaints.   However, I did not complain to the contractor.  I complained to the Office of the President, erroneously thinking that she would take steps within the organization to halt the abuse.   Nothing happened.  Only when I complained to the EPA did anything happen.

Well, the exterior of my property is covered with grime and I want it professionally cleaned.  If it will not be cleaned to my satisfaction, I want it replaced.   I also want each of my tenants residing at the premises during the fugitive dust time period to receive $10,000 from the University for their inability to have their windows open and their inability to fully enjoy the front porch and the lawn.  I wish to thank them for their tolerance while the University couldn't manage to pick up a phone and return a call.  It would have been so easy.

I do not hate the University.  My mother taught there and I have two degrees from there.  I have successfully rented to students since 1975 and I will deliver them gas in the middle of the night if they run out and will go out of my way to help them succeed in their pursuits of a college education .  I love them.  They are the grandchildren I don't have.  Obviously I expect too much from the administration.

Just a phone call, Beverly.  Just a phone call...
