Rep. Announces $1.23 Million for University Improvements, Investment

From the Office of the Representative: State Rep. Kathleen Clyde (D-Kent) today announced the release of over $1.23 million in state funds for various area projects, including improvements at the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), Kent State University (KSU) and Camp Ravenna.

“State investments like those announced today, especially in our universities and locally-owned businesses, help Portage County build off the growth we’ve seen in recent years and allow Northeast Ohio to remain a great place to live, work, get a great education and raise a family,” said Rep. Clyde.

Today’s announced projects include:

• $1.15 million in state funds for NEOMED campus infrastructure upgrades, for parking and outdoor improvements as well as new energy-efficient lighting systems.
• $58,500 will go toward installation of a new fire alarm system at KSU’s Stockdale Safety Building, whose current alarm system has outlived its expected life span.
• $26,000 in state funds will go to Camp Ravenna, where Kent-area business, Davey Resource Group, has been contracted to conduct a fire monitoring and enhancement project aimed at regenerating native plant growth at the facility.
