LAKEWOOD, OH — The Beck Center will debut its first in-person play in more than a year on July 23.

"This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing," will be the first live production at the Beck since COVID-19 shut down Ohio and the nation in March 2020. A preview of the show will be held July 22 before the production officially opens July 23. The show will run through Aug. 8.

The play tells the tale of three sisters: one who walks the globe, one who searches for adventure, and one who grows where she is planted. Their stories converge at a lovely home in the woods. "This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing," will be directed by Eric Schmiedl and stars actress Derdriu Ring.

“I can't think of a better way to plunge back into the world of live theater where vibrant storytelling draws the audience in. This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, and This Girl Does Nothing tells the story of three very different sisters as they take life-altering journeys, and is brought to life by one of Northeast Ohio's preeminent actresses...Derdriu Ring. It's a story that is perfect for young and old alike, and you'll rarely get a chance to see anything quite like it on area stages," said Beck Center Artistic Director Scott Spence.

Before audiences return in-person to the Beck, the newly-named Senney Theater has had a new HVAC and air filtration system installed. All audience members will be asked to wear masks during the performance, and crew and staff will do the same.
