$400,000 Upgrades Begin at Lakewood Parking Lots

What started out as a parking lot improvement plan at the municipal lots — between St. Charles and Cook just north of Detroit Avenue — has gotten a little more involved.

“It turned into a parking lot improvement and storm water improvement project,” said Joe Beno, the city’s director of public works.

The city obtained a $150,000 storm-water improvement grant to help pay for the $400,000 project.

In addition to new pavement, the two parking lots will have kiosks that will allow motorists to pay for parking with a credit card, or by using a cell phone.

The concrete medians separating the lines of cars were ripped out, and replaced with an intricate water drainage system.

Work on the project recently began, and is expected to finish by the end of November.
