On Thursday, Ohio surpassed 800,000 COVID-19 cases confirmed among residents since the pandemic began. While there hasn't been a massive surge in new cases following the holidays, the state has seen an uptick in key COVID-19 metrics.
"The new cases per capita at the statewide level has increased since last week - this is not good. We were already at a very elevated level at 657 cases per capita last week, and now we’re close to 740," Gov. Mike DeWine said.

DeWine added that COVID-19 patients using intensive care beds has dipped, but there are concerns the numbers could jump with a spike in cases.
Approximately 3 percent of Ohioans have started the COVID-19 vaccine (nearly 360,000 people), according to the Ohio Department of Health. Vaccine distribution will soon move into Phase 1B, which will include Ohioans 65 and older, teachers and school staffers, and Ohioans with serious, chronic illnesses.
Starting next week, Ohioans 80+ will be eligible to begin receiving the #COVID19 vaccine. Today we launched a new vaccine provider tool to help make site information easily accessible, but each provider manages its own schedules and appointments. https://t.co/hqPtIO0reC pic.twitter.com/uWOkFfew3z
